The crew cuts, duck walks, squat jumps and long hours under the sun during ROTC training may soon become a reality again if former Senator and Philippine Red Cross Chairman Richard J. Gordon has his way.
Gordon is pushing for the revival of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) as a mandatory training program for college students. He says that this will ensure that the country will have enough reserve personnel to call on in the event of any hostile intrusion or war.
Gordon says that the country does not have enough soldiers and military personnel to defend its sovereignty.
ROTC was abolished in 2002 and replaced with a more lenient type of civic training and social service, the Journal reported.
