DepEd warned against toxic grad medals

Environmentalist group EcoWaste Coalition yesterday warned the Department of Education (DepEd) to be careful about graduation medals that may be tainted with lead.

Aileen Lucero of EcoWaste Coalition’s Project Protect said the DepEd should alert school officials since graduation time is fast approaching.

Some graduation medals are sourced cheaply and could contain lead. This substance, she said, can cause permanent brain damage, Tempo reported.
