They’ll smuggle anything these days, it seems. The Bureau of Customs has confiscated two 40-foot container vans filled with used tires, electronics, computer routers, parts, and accessories from Japan and Singapore.
Sun Star Online reports one of the container vans was misdeclared as a shipment of oil filters and pistons. The other container, which supposedly had computer parts, was found to contain wireless Internet routers, network cables, antivirus CDs, and iPhone cases, Customs commissioner Ruffy Biazon said.
The contraband was found after x-ray scanning at the Manila International Container Terminal. The confiscated contraband is estimated to be worth around P12 million.
“We strongly believe that one way to eliminate smuggling is to hit smugglers where it will hurt the most, their pockets. We will not waver, therefore, in our campaign, not only to get smugglers, but their smuggled goods as well,” Biazon said.
