Let’s all welcome the Crime Incident Reporting System (CIRS), also known as e-blotter.
What’s so good about it?
- It makes the transmission of crime reports from police stations to headquarters faster, easier and even paperless.
- The crime database is accessible to all police stations and headquarters nationwide.
- It’s easier for victims to follow up on their complaints, thanks to an incident record transaction receipt.
- It can generate statistics (like which village has the most number of crime incidents, for example) using the e-blotter system in seconds.
According to a story on Inquirer, the Philippine National Police Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (PNP-DIDM) has already trained 38 of their statisticians and investigators to make sure they can use the e-blotter confidently.
So what’s next? An e-warrant program that has arrest warrants in a database, and the e-rogue gallery, featuring pictures of wanted criminals.
