Manila will be installing parking meters at the Binondo area and these will be operational starting next week. According to Freddie Fremista, Business Development Officer of Manila Parking Management (Mapma), this brings Manila to “the forefront of First World technology and help it achieve its goal of bringing progress to society.”
The parking meters are similar to those used in the United States and Europe. Mayor Alfredo Lim said he hoped that it will help ease the traffic problems of Manila’s Chinatown. The scheme was meant to deter double parking in the congested streets of Quentin Paredes, Juan Luna, Madrid, Ongpin, Escolta and Benitez.
If the parking meters prove to be successful, Mayor Lim said that it will implemented in other areas of the city, Inquirer News reported.
