Beware of the BIR scam

There’s a BIR scam going on so be careful.

Here’s how they operate: someone calls you pretending to be from the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) Office of the Deputy Commissioner-Operations Group, and tells you that you have a pending tax audit or liabilities. You are then advised to call numbers like 387-44-16, 703-99-54, 408-39-47, where they purportedly have to settle their accounts, according to ABS-CBN News.

This modus operandi “consists of informing the intended victim of alleged tax obligations, mostly but not limited to tax on compensation,” according to the BIR, adding that those numbers don’t belong to the agency.
