Oh no, Dr. Westly Rosario, chief of the Dagupan-based National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development (NIFTDC), just confirmed that there will be a shortage of bangus this yuletide season. Philstar.com recently reported that this shortage will make milkfish more expensive; from its P120 to P130 per kilo price in the Dagupan Fish Market, it can go up to P160 per kilo.
Manila will definitely feel this, too.
Making things worse is the northeast monsoon from November to February; it is that time of the year when the milkfish don’t eat a lot because of the cold weather. As a result, they turn out smaller and thinner than usual.
