At least eight persons,including two firefighters, were injured when a fire broke out at the Rizal police provincial headquarters in Tanay, Rizal on Monday morning.
Six vehicles and neighboring houses were damaged after explosions rocked the compound. According to reports, the fire affected the storage facility that houses ammunition and explosives for the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, Scene of Crime Operations (Soco) and Explosives and Ordnance Division (EOD).
The injured police officers were Chief Insp. Ruben Apostol, Police Officers 3 Ferdinand Jaramilla, Ferdinand Nonesa and Malvin Alfante, and PO2 Jose Grafel Tiberio.Firefighters Jaime Valencia, Elpidio Asis Jr. and Ramil dela Rosa, were all brought to the hospital for medical attention.
The blaze was put out around 7 a.m. Investigators peg the estimated damage to property at PHP5 million, Inquirer News reported.
