7 die in QC apartment fire

A family of six and their helper died on Christmas Day as the row of apartments they were in got engulfed by fire. According to philstar.com, neighbors heard them crying for help but they couldn’t escape because they were trapped by window grills.

The fire started at around 5:24 a.m., killing veterinarian Carlos Filamor Sr., who owned the property on Rest Haven Street in Barangay Bungad, and the rest of his family: wife Corina, 50; their children Carlos Jr., 25, and Eva, 26; Eva’s two sons, Miguel Andrei Mutuc, 13, and Mateo Aaron Mutuc, 14. Their helper, Marina Ayon, 48, also died.

The fire started on the ground floor, destroying 16 two-story apartment units. The burned bodies of a cat and a dog were also found, believed to have come from the clinic that Filamor used to operate.

While arson investigators still haven’t determined what caused the fire, damage to property was placed at P5 million.

Firemen were able to put the fire under control at around 6:30 a.m. and put it out at 6:58 a.m.
