A section of the historic Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) was closed off to traffic this morning to give way to the 27th anniversary of the EDSA People Power revolution.
According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), portions of EDSA are closed while some areas will be temporarily rerouted. The 27th anniversary rites included a flag-raising ceremony led by President Benigno Aquino III.
Security in the area was tight due to the arrival of the President and other cabinet officials.
At the same time, Manila Police also beefed up its security and anti-riot police in preparation for the militant groups who will be holding protest rallies.
GMA NEWS reported that police are already in position at the Bonifacio Shrine near Lawton and the United States Embassy.
