Some 20,000 families living along the San Juan River, will be relocated by the Department of Interior and Local Government as part of its flood control measures.
In a GMA News report, Interior Undersecretary Francisco Fernandez said there are a total of 100,000 families living near or along waterways all over Metro Manila. All of these families will have to be relocated to safer dwelling places.
Additionally, their shanties and other makeshift structures will be demolished so that the rives can be dredged and deepened. This move will hopefully minimize the incidents of flood in the metropolis.
Fernandez noted that the government has earmarked P10 billion each year for the massive resettlement program.
