Two motorcycle-riding men, suspected to be muggers in the C.M. Recto area, were shot dead by Manila police before dawn Tuesday after running checkpoint in Manila.
GMA News reported that the two were onboard a motorcycle from the C.M. Recto Avenue area. They reportedly refused to stop at the designated police checkpoint at Jose Abad Santos Street.
According to Manila police, the two men tried to fire at officers manning the checkpoint.
Police recovered a woman’s bag with money and an ID, prompting them to believe that this belonged to one of their recent victims.
Police checkpoint operations have been set up since Sunday as part of the safety precautions for the May 13, 2013 elections.
