Police are asking for the public’s help as they search for a woman who allegedly kidnapped a newborn baby boy from a clinic in Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental on Sunday morning.
Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Philip Pontillas, the city’s police chief, told Coconuts Manila in a phone interview that the kidnapping occurred in Gingoog City Puericulture Center in Barangay 16.
The baby was the third child of the mother, identified as Marichu Villegas.

“The mother breastfed the baby at about 5am. She slept after that and put the baby beside her. When she was asleep, she felt someone take the baby, whom she thought was her mother.
“When she woke up and asked her mother where the baby was, her mother denied taking the child. They looked around at the clinic but couldn’t find him,” said Pontillas.
Pontillas added that no one would have been able to stop the suspect from entering the clinic, as it did not have a security guard, and its watchman was busy cleaning the delivery room. The nurses and doctors on duty were also busy attending to another woman who was delivering a baby.
Gingoog City police have released a cartographic sketch of the suspect based on a witness’ description. She was last seen in the nearby village of Kahulugan. People may call (+63) 9177917575 if they have information on the suspect’s whereabouts.
