New Year firecracker injuries breach 1,000 mark

Next time, let’s use scare tactics to keep Pinoys from playing with firecrackers.

“Department of Health (DOH) Assistant Secretary Eric Tayag said as of 6am of Sunday, January 5, there have been a total of 1,018 New Year revelry-related injuries: 997 firecracker injuries, 2 firecracker ingestion, and 19 stray bullet injuries,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

Tayag pointed out that said 376 or 38% of the firecracker injuries were due to the banned firecracker piccolo.

According to the report, the number of injuries recorded this year is higher than the 931 cases (904 firecracker injuries; 2 firecracker ingestion; and 25 stray bullet injuries) in the 2012 celebration.
