Contrary to satirical articles that were mistaken as genuine by hapless netizens, the new U.S. ambassador to the Philippines is NOT CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
“United States Ambassador to the Philippines Philip S. Goldberg hastily took his new post on Thursday, Nov 21, so he could head to Manila and help coordinate America’s aid to the typhoon-shattered nation,” reports Agence France-Presse (AFP) on ABS-CBN News.com.
The report quoted Goldberg, who said, “It’s hard to think of the suffering of so many people in the Philippines in recent weeks and all they’ve endured without a touch of sadness and without being moved.” He went on to describe the Filipino people as “tough and resilient.”
Goldberg’s confirmation as ambassador to the Philippines was “rushed” because the US Senate, as they wanted him to be on the ground to oversee their Typhoon Yolanda relief efforts.
Goldberg takes over Harry Thomas Jr. He is a career diplomat whose previous assignments were in Bolivia, Bogotoa, Colombia and South Africa, according to GMA Network News.
