New QC ordinance offers loans for new graduates

Wow, Quezon City seems to be on a roll with these ordinances.

“First-time job hunters among the poorest Quezon City residents could use some pocket money—so by virtue of a newly approved ordinance, the ‘Hanap na, Bayad Later’ program is extending loans at PHP2,000 each to new graduates and indigents who can pay them back once they get hired,” reports Jeannette I. Andrade in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The ordinance, which was signed on Jan 9 by Mayor Herbert Bautista, is implemented through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO). It mandates the city government to set aside an initial PHP1 million for the financial assistance scheme.

Potential borrowers are required to register with PESO. They also have to show proof that they are new graduates or from low-income households. Once they get jobs, they can pay the loan in installments for up to a year.
