New PNP chief announced: Dir. Ricardo Marquez

At Camp Crame, Quezon City on Tue, Jul 14, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Mar Roxas announced that the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) is Dir. Ricardo Marquez.

“Marquez was the head of the police task force for the visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines last January and has been PNP’s director for operations since December 2013,” reports GMA News Online.

Marquez assumes the position as Deputy Dir. Gen. Leonardo Espina is set to retire on Jul 16.

At a press conference where he made the announcement, Roxas expressed confidence in the leadership of Marquez. “I am confident that President Noynoyn Aquino chose someone with a proven track record. I have great confidence in Director Ric Marquez,” Rozas stated in Filipino.

For his part, Marquez said, “With humility and full gratitude, I accept the challenge to lead the 160,000-strong PNP.
