New Metro Manila traffic chief bails on first meeting with congress

Was he stuck in traffic?

The newly-appointed chairman of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the body responsible for governing traffic in Metro Manila, said he missed the meeting due to a “miscommunication.”

According to Rappler, the meeting was supposed cover security issues and the temporarily suspended Anti-Distracted Driving Act.

“I’m disappointed to say the least,” said Senior Deputy Minority Leader Lito Atienza said after learning Lim would not be able to show up. “We all had full schedules today. I had a full schedule today, with a set of meetings already scheduled, but I gave preference and priority to this meeting because they said he confirmed that he will attend the meeting today.”

“We were surprised at his non-presence here. We have agreed to give him a chance, but any absence or similar occurence similar to this will be dealt with severely,” Representative Winnie Castelo said.

The report was rescheduled for May 31.

On Wednesday, Castelo said that they would ask Lim to prioritize empowering the Metro Manila Council, the policymaking body of the MMDA, whose members comprise Metro Manila’s mayors and legislators.
