New members of Congress undergo training in lawmaking

Work starts early for 31 new lawmakers at the House of Representatives who signed up for an executive course on legislation at the University of the Philippines in Quezon City.

The course, a project of House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., is meant to teach first-term legislators the theories and concepts of legislation and the importance of legislation in Philippine development. The course is also meant to teach them how to work with constituents and their peers in Congress and in the Executive branch to get meaningful legislation passed.

The four-day seminar has experts from the UP National College for Public Administration and Governance as well as veteran members of the House as resource speakers.

UP has also hosted similar courses for legislators from city and provincial councils.
