New Fabella hospital to be built in DOH compound

The Fabella Hospital is perhaps best associated with the image of an old and crowded hospital where women give birth by the hundreds every day. Well, that image may be about to change for the better. The Health department is planning to build a much bigger and more modern Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital at the DOH compound in Sta. Cruz, Manila soon.

In a Philippine Star report, DOH Undersecretary Ted Herbosa said a total of P750 million has been appropriated for the project. The department has also set a pre-bid conference on June 11 for contractors.

The new Fabella hospital will have 9 floors, but the initial budget is only for the first 5 storeys. Herbosa explains that the DOH does not own the current land where the hospital is standing on, hence the need to move the facility to the DOH compound.
