The hopes and dreams of Filipinos who joined the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office’s (PCSO) Ultra Lotto 6/58 were dashed when two people won the prize — the biggest in the PCSO’s history — last night.
The jackpot worth Php1,180,622,508 (US$21.7million) was won by someone from Albay and another from Eastern Samar, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Their real identities are being kept secret, however, as the PCSO does not divulge winners’ real names to protect their safety.
They both guessed the winning combination: 40-50-37-25-01-45.
Naturally, people were kind of heartbroken that it wasn’t them.
One of the unlucky ones was Rizandemar Telin, who wrote in a mix of English and Filipino: “Finally. I don’t have to think every day about what I’ll do if I win. It’s so stressful. Congrats to the winners.”
Filipino indie musician @bulletdumas has probably been waiting to say this for the longest time: “Woah das a lotto pesos.”

Twitter user @enrcs_e said she was disappointed with the results, but wasn’t surprised.

Dane Emmanuel G. Montoya tagged his friends and said: “My plans for the PHP1 billion-jackpot are gone.”
Alvin Reyes bought four lottery tickets. He didn’t win, but seemed to take the news in stride.
“It was the first time that I’ve ever bet in the lotto. I’m happy to have contributed an extra PHP96 (US$1.77) to the bettors’ winnings. All the best! Okay, let’s get back to work!” said Reyes.
“Now that the lotto grand prize has been won, people can stop dreaming of what to do with the 1 billion and start thinking about how to fit the (sic) everyday expenses into their monthly income,” said @ruffybiazon.
Well, that’s a sad slap of reality.

Don’t feel too bad though, because Burger King has something in store for losing bettors.
Applicable from Oct. 15-16, the fast food outlet’s PHP37 (US$0.68) thick-cut french fries are two for one when you show your lotto ticket.
