The Philippines is in the middle of the summer season and temperatures have soared. One city, Dagupan, even had a temperature of 51.7 degrees Celsius yesterday. Everyone is suffering from the heat, including this dog who was seen tied to a vehicle at a wide open parking lot.

Netizen Mico Gonzales became upset yesterday after he and his girlfriend saw a dog tied to a car in Paco, Manila.

Gonzales posted a few photos of the dog and the car on his own Facebook account. The sight left many netizens fuming because it was apparent that the dog was uncomfortable from standing underneath the sun.

In his caption, Gonzales wrote in Filipino: “If you’re going to keep a dog as a pet, you have to be responsible. It’s so hot here at Robinsons Otis and then we saw this [dog]. We tried to remove him from his leash but he would try to bite us because he was so mad.”

Below is one of the photos of the dog, which appears to be a beagle. The animal even seemed to have pooped near the vehicle.

Netizens were so mad by the sight that Gonzales’ Facebook post was shared more than 2,400 times since posting.

In a Facebook Messenger interview with Coconuts Manila, Gonzales said he saw the dog at around 12:30pm yesterday, a time when it was really hot in the area. Gonzales said he didn’t know who the dog’s owner was. However, he showed Coconuts a message from another person who told Gonzales that the pet owner was allegedly in a coffee shop for two hours while the dog was left outside the car.

Gonzales said that it was apparent that the dog was very uncomfortable. “My girlfriend and I, we couldn’t take how hot it was. It was worse for this dog. I’m sure his paws ended up with blisters [from the heat of the pavement],” he said.

He said that the dog was panting when they saw him. “We tried to remove his leash, but he was very aggressive. He wanted to bite us,” he said.

To prevent such incidents from occurring again, Gonzales advised netizens to leave their pets at home instead of bringing them out in public.

Most netizens were angry by what the dog went through, such as Rence Mendiola, who wrote: “His owner is so stupid. I want to kick him in the face.”

Patricia Flores wrote about the dog’s owner: “They’re heartless, they’re also brainless.”

One person said Gonzales should have done things differently.

Wrote Jm Benigay: “To the person who took this photo– if they were really concerned about the dog, they should have asked the mall to page [make an announcement] to notify the owner that what he did was wrong!

“If the owner doesn’t show up, they should have asked the guard or a K9 team for help because they are trained to handle dogs.”

However, one netizen said it was the mall’s fault, and not the dog’s owner.

Junniefer Salabao wrote: “Blame the mall for not letting animals such as dogs inside its premises. If the dog were left inside the car, he would have suffocated and died.”

Salabao was willing to give the owner the benefit of the doubt. “Maybe he just did something quickly or bought something important.”

Another netizen thinks all the online outrage is hypocritical. A netizen using the name Cjay Marriott wrote: “You people are so fake. When you see a stray mangy dog who’s suffering under the heat and he would approach you, you would shoo him away or throw a rock at him. Now that you see a pure-bred dog standing underneath the sun, you’re pretending to be mad?”
