August 3 is poised to be a big day for the Philippine team at the Olympics, with three athletes aiming for medals throughout the day.
Team Philippines is already off to a good start, as boxer Carlo Paalam emerged victorious over Shakhobidin Zoirov of Uzbekistan, the reigning Olympic champion, in the men’s flyweight semifinals this morning. With the win, Paalam is assured of at least a bronze medal.
At 12:05pm today (1:05pm Tokyo time), Nesthy Petecio will go up against Sena Irie of Japan for the gold medal in the women’s featherweight finals at the Kokugikan Arena.
And then, at 6:20pm (7:20pm Tokyo time), pole vaulter EJ Obiena will compete in the men’s pole vault finals against a field of 13 other athletes.
