We honestly don’t know how the complainant stayed sane despite the habitual harrassment of her boss.
“National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 7 Director Jose Romeo Escandor was found guilty of sexual harassment by the Sandiganbayan 5th Division,” reports Marc Jayson Cayabyab on Inquirer.net.
The report noted: “The court overruled a jail term imposition, but penalized Escandor with a PHP20,000 fine.”
The sexual harassment case against Escandor was filed by a married female staff, who said the director harassed her from 1994 to 2004.
The complainant had testified that Escandor talked to her in 1994 and said he was “falling in love” with her.
She also cited the following details in her complaint:
1. Escandor forced her to sit beside him during lunch meetings and would touch her hands under the table.
2. He sent her pop-up love notes on her desktop computer.
3. He kissed her on the cheek against her will and declared that he missed her.
4. Escandor also sent vulgar messages on her email about sex, and even forwarded sex jokes that included a picture of a topless former U.S. First Lady.
5. Escandor had a perverse habit of borrowing pornographic films from officemates.
6. Escandor’s wife revealed to her that he had an “intense appetite” for sex, whcih reportedly made the wife tired.
7. Escandor asked the complainant to have sex with him in 1999. She refused his advances, so Escandor started to berate the complainant in NEDA meetings.
The report likewise pointed out: “This was not the first time Escandor was convicted of sexual harassment. The Sandiganbayan 3rd Division convicted Escandor in October 2013 to a six-month imprisonment and a PHP20,000 fine for a sexual harassment complaint by another female staff.”
