It’s plain to see that this matter won’t be resolved for a long time.

“The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) on Tuesday, January 13, issued a cease-and-desist order against the construction of the 49-storey Torre de Manila by development firm DMCI — which is said to be ruining the landscape of Jose Rizal’s monument in Manila,” reports Camille Diola on Philstar.com.

The report noted: “NCCA Chair Felipe de Leon Jr. signed the order, directing law enforcement agencies to serve the mandate. He argued that the Torre de Manila construction violates Republic Act 10066 protecting the physical integrity of heritage sites as well as the constitutional provision on the preservation of cultural landmarks.”

De Leon also pointed out that “failure to comply with the order is considered a ‘criminal offense.'”

Sen. Pia Cayetano, who led the Senate investigation on the controversial building, then posted a photo of the cease-and-dessit order along with this caption: “It’s about time we take culture and heritage protection seriously.”
