NBI says it will probe viral ‘sexy dance’ video incident

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has announced that it will be investigating the incident involving a viral video of a provocative intermission dance number that took place during the bureau’s command conference on June 30. NBI Director Menardo de Lemos made this statement during a press conference held at the NBI headquarters in Quezon City, expressing his apologies for the incident and emphasizing the agency’s commitment to addressing the matter.

During the conference’s fellowship night at the Manila Diamond Hotel, a dance performance featuring scantily clad dancers took place, causing the video to circulate widely on social media platforms. Director de Lemos asserted that the investigation will focus on determining who invited the dancers, who facilitated their presence at the event, and who authorized their performance. He firmly stated that the NBI will hold accountable those responsible for this lapse, underlining the agency’s zero-tolerance policy towards indecent behavior.

It should be noted that Director de Lemos clarified that he was not present during the dancers’ performance, distancing himself from the incident. However, as the head of the bureau, he took responsibility for the matter and pledged to rectify the situation.

The Department of Justice (DOJ), which oversees the NBI, commented on the incident, urging the bureau to reevaluate its protocols and standards of decorum to prevent any future recurrence.

DOJ spokesman Mico Clavano acknowledged that the inclusion of female sexy dancers in the NBI’s mid-year command conference may have been a result of misjudgment, lack of awareness, and insensitivity on the part of the organizing team. While recognizing that such factors do not excuse the incident, Clavano encouraged the NBI to use this opportunity to reassess their protocols and reinforce professionalism within the agency.
