Philippine Coast Guard personnel involved in a shooting incident involving a Taiwanese vessel in the Balintang Channel may face charges, a National Bureau of Investigation team probing the encounter said.
According to a Philippine Star report, NBI deputy director Virgilio Mendez said the NBI is still reviewing the case and will need additional evidence for its final report. Medical and ballistics records from Taiwan will also have to be translated into English, he said.
The NBI also wants to see the slug recovered from the Taiwanese fishing boat as well as records to prove who was holding the gun that killed a Taiwanese fisherman.
Taipei, which has its own team investigating the incident, has meanwhile proposed a fisheries agreement between the Philippines and Taiwan.
