The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will help implement the warrant of arrest for Jeane Catherine Napoles who stands accused for tax evasion before the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA).

Justice Secretary Leila De Lima said she will direct the NBI, an attached agency of the Department of Justice (DOJ), to effect the warrant against Napoles, the daughter of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles.

The CTA issued the arrest warrant for the younger Napoles for failure to appear for her arraignment. She had earlier posted bail for her temporary liberty but failed to submit herself to the jurisdiction of the tax appeals court by snubbing her arraignment.

The DOJ filed the tax case against Napoles based on a complaint filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for the following basic tax deficiencies:

– P17.46 million for a US $1.28 million condominium unit in Los Angeles, California acquired in July 2011; and
– P426,867 as co-owner of two Pangasinan farm lots in January 2012.
