US TV network NBC has greenlit a sitcom titled Mail Order Family, which has a Filipina mail-order bride as one of the main characters.
Deadline revealed that the sitcom is written and executive produced by Jackie Clarke, noting that the story “is loosely based on Clarke’s family.”
You see, the sitcom “follows a widowed single father who orders a mail-order bride from the Philippines to help raise his two preteen daughters.”
Right now, though, it remains to be seen if the sitcom will be delivered or returned to sender, as critics have slammed it for glorifying the trafficking of women.
Check out the heated reactions below:
As expected, Clarke has been defending the show, responding to the flood of comments on Twitter.
Whew, looks like this sitcom just turned into hardcore drama.
