When there’s a will, there’s a way. While others would have just given up, several members of a community of informal settlers in Navotas City have found an alternative way to help their kids get to school without spending for pedicab fare.
“Kids aged between 4 to 8 years old literally have to pass through a hole in the wall, fitting themselves in the street canal below,” reports Irvin Cortez on GMA News Online.
The report noted: “The normal mode of transportation in the area is by pedicab, but parents, most of them jobless, find the PHP15 to PHP20 fare more than they could afford. To save on money, these kids crawl through the canal while their parents and other kids who are too big to pass under, use a rope to climb over the wall.”
The complete story will be featured in Tricia Zafra’s report in the Education Special episode of “Brigada” at 8pm on Tue, Jun 23.
