National Press club elects first Muslim head after more than 60 years

It’s a milestone, that’s for sure.

“The National Press Club of the Philippines (NPC) held its general assembly and election of new officers on Sunday in Manila and elected Joel Egco, a Muslim convert,” reports Manila Standard Today.

Egco is a former reporter of the Manila Standard who embraced Islam in 2011. Thus, he is the first Filipino Muslim president of the country’s biggest association of active media practitioners that was established in 1952.
