This accident has ruined the days of thousands of people headed to the airport.

“Occupants of at least seven vehicles involved in a construction accident miraculously escaped death after a girder launcher being used to lift concrete slabs fell on them in the unfinished NAIA skyway project along Andrews Avenue corner Tramo St., Pasay City, on Monday afternoon, March 23,” reports Eric B. Apolonio on InterAksyon.com.

The report noted: “Nobody was hurt in the incident that occurred at around 3:24 p.m. but caused heavy traffic in the area of EDSA/Tramo flyover going to Andrews Ave. leading to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals 1,2,3, and 4.”

The report added that the road was subsequently “closed to traffic and affected thousands of passengers of 48 flights from the four terminals of the airport; 23 for International and 25 for domestic, with flights scheduled to depart between 5:00pm and 8:00 pm on Monday, March 23.”

The report said that according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino, “it will take hours to extricate the fallen girder to clear traffic that requires at least three heavy duty cranes to lift the fallen steel structures.”
