Stories like this almost make us forget that we have an international airport that’s falling apart.
Technically, the matter was no longer under their jurisdiction, but police detailed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) still helped an 80-year-old Spanish tourist recover a bag full of cash that he had left in the taxi he rode from Malate to the airport’s Terminal 1.
According to Lt. Demetrio Sison, in charge of the NAIA police intelligence and investigation section, Marco Munoz Santiago was “a retired physical therapist from Spain who arrived Monday night, Feb 17, from Sydney, Australia.”
The report explained that “Santiago had to go back to NAIA 1 on Tuesday morning, Feb 18, to return luggage that he had misclaimed and was about to get an airport access pass when he noticed that he left his bag in the taxi he had taken.”
Santiago immediately sought help from the airport police, who then sent out its people to track down the taxi. The police recovered Santiago’s bag, which contained around PHP789,000 worth of foreign currencies, travelers’ checks, as well as his passport.
