If incidents like this keep happening, we could soon regain the number one spot in the world’s worst airports list.
Last week, Rev. Fr. Jose Relente from the Diocese of Kalibo, Aklan, returned from a trip to the US on Korean Airlines (Flight KE 623). He said he checked in four balikbayan boxes when he boarded the flight in Los Angeles.
“Relente arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 at 11:30pm on Oct 15. Upon arrival, he said he noticed that one of his four boxes came out very late. Since it was already late in the evening, he just left the airport to get some rest before taking his connecting domestic flight to Kalibo,” reports Raoul Esperas on ABS-CBNnews.com.
The report noted: “According to Relente, it was already at home when he noticed that the rope of one of his balikbayan boxes was gone. After opening the box, he found the rope inside. He said some of the contents of the box, such as chocolates and soap sent by relatives and friends, were also missing.”
Relente wasn’t able to inform Korean Airlines about the incident, as he discovered the pilferage only when he was already back in Kalibo. He does not plan to file any complaint because of the hassle of going back to Manila. He did say that he is “praying that God will forgive the culprits.”
NAIA Terminal 1 manager Dante Basanta has gotten in touch with Relente to get more details about the incident. Basanta said they intend to notify Korean Airlines about the pilferage.
