NAIA 1 rehab starts in January, new toilets promised

Because we can’t be tagged as “the world’s worst airport” forever.

“The rehabilitation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s (NAIA) Terminal 1 will begin on January next year after the government awarded the contract to the DMCI Holdings Inc.,” reports ANC.

The report revealed that among the things that will be prioritized in the upgrade are “aditional exit taxiways that will allow planes to leave the main runway quicker, as well as new toilets and ceilings that won’t collapse.”

DMCI Holdings Inc. has been given a until December 2014 to perform the makeover. Apparently, the government wants NAIA 1 ready for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, which the counry is hosting in 2015.

There’s a good chance that the airport will look more fabulous than we ever imagined because “industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue, interior designer Budji Layug, and the group of architect Royal Pineda are reportedly on board as design consultants.”
