Airline ground personnel holding up umbrellas inside the newly-rehabilitated NAIA 1 is not a usual thing to see.
According to reports reaching ABS-CBN, NAIA Terminal 1 experienced water leakage starting Wednesday (May 27). When it rains, several airline lounges situated at the pre-departure east and west concourse are badly affected.
Passengers were assisted by airline ground personnel holding up umbrellas to prevent them from getting wet or from accidentally slipping on wet floor.
Airline executives, meanwhile, are coordinating with the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to determine the damage caused by the leakage to their lounges.
MIAA spokesperson Dave De Castro confirmed that NAIA Terminal 1 is still undergoing waterproofing for its ceiling.
De Castro said construction firm DMCI, which got the contract for the rehabilitation due to be finished in June 2015, has promised to shoulder the cost.
NAIA Terminal 1 manager Dante Basanta, meanwhile, apologized to all affected passengers. He also advised DMCI to install precautionary measures to avoid any similar incident in the future. —from a report by Raoul Esperas
