Miss Teen Philippines returns with Jasmine Curtis-Smith as ambassador!

In 2007, Allysa Marie Villarico became Miss Teen Philippines, and then the pagaent for Filipina teens sort of went into a coma. Fast forward to 2014, and the pagaent wakes up from its 7-year sleep, and is looking intent on making a strong comeback. Apart from the usual nationawide pagaentry that leads to the grand coronation night in May, the return of Miss Teen Philippines includes a few updates on the pageant proper.

First, it borrows a reality show staple: mentors. This year’s Miss Teen Philippines has five of them: model/actress/host and beauty queen Ruffa Gutierrez, blogger Laureen Uy, makeup artist Robbie Pinera, hair guru Jing Monis, model Bianca Valerio, and beauty queen Lara Quigaman.

Second, it also has an, ehem, ambassador in the person of showbiz sweetheart Jasmine Curtis-Smith.

But while there are updates, the thrust of Miss Teen Philippines remains the same. It is to find a female role model who can inspire teens to get ahead in life through education. That said, the winner will become the Department of Education’s Ambassadress, and will become a delagate to the Southeast Asian Youth Program and the National Youth Parliament.

This is open to 13-18 Filipinas, enrolled in any educational institutions within the country. It’s open to everyone, with regional pre-qualification pagaents in key cities: CDO, Mar 9; Cebu, Mar 15; Iloilo, Mar 16; Davao, Mar 18; Nag, Mar 22; and finally Manila Mar, 23.
