Who’s gonna put them out of their misery?
Earlier this week, it was reported that the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) is now enforcing a new crowd control scheme, wherein only 500 people at a time are allowed on the platforms. Well, the scheme isn’t exactly making commuters smile.
The supposed holiday surge in passengers—and the implementation of the so-called crowd control scheme “is causing misery for MRT riders, as it now takes them at least an hour to just get on a station platform, not counting the time it takes them to get on a train,” reports Rainier Allan Ronda in The Philippine Star.
Nevertheless, MRT operations manager Renato San Jose said that they continue to implement crowd control measures at the North Avenue and Pasay-Taft stations. The report quoted him as saying, “No matter where you make them fall in line or how you set up the queues, there will be long lines because there are still the same number of trains to accommodate all the passengers.”
In other words, San Jose is saying that the only solution to this problem is to add more trains. Well, duh, talk about stating the obvious! Perhaps, San Jose was just echoing what Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Sec. Jun Abaya said. The bad news is that those additional trains are expected to arrive in 2016.
