Commuters can now start bringing bottled water and other liquids inside the Metro Manila Rail Transit System (MRT-3) trains again — but there’s a catch.
The MRT-3 management said in an advisory earlier today that liquid items over 100 milliliters are now allowed inside their trains and stations, as long as the commuter “tests” it in front of officers first.

These liquids include bottled water, perfume, rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer, and lotion, among others. The management clarified that the passenger has to drink the water, spray the perfume, or use the lotion or rubbing alcohol in front of the MRT security personnel before being permitted to enter.
The management also reminded commuters to claim confiscated liquid items from the Station Control Room (SCR) of the station where the item was seized. Passengers just have to present an ID for verification.
The Light Rail Transit (LRT) management has yet to announce if it will also lift its liquid ban.
They told Coconuts Manila through a Facebook message earlier this month that bottled drinks are still banned from their trains and stations; with the exception of infant nutrition and medicines.
Metro Manila’s train lines banned commuters from bringing bottled drinks to their stations in January after recent bombings in Mindanao sparked heightened alert nationwide. Bottled liquids were banned as they can be used as “liquid bombs.”
