A group of motorcycle riders wants to reiterate that they shouldn’t be punished for the actions of criminals.
“Members of the Motorcycle Rights Organization (MRO) will gather in Quezon City on Sunday, January 26, to protest against the possibility of banning ‘riding-in-tandem’ in Manila in a bid to curb crimes,” reports Mary Rose A. Hogaza in the Manila Bulletin.
The report noted that “the recent spate of blatant crimes perpetuated usually by two people on motorcycle has prompted local governments to find ways to thwart highly mobile criminals who usually carry out robberies and assassinations nationwide.”
In particular, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada earlier announced that they are “considering banning two people on a motorbike to enter the city.” Meanwhile, in Quezon City, one initiative that’s being considered is “to require every motorcyclist to wear a vest bearing the plate number of their vehicle.”
The report quoted MRO administrator Jobert Bolanos, who said “motorcycle riders should not be punished for the crimes that happens around the city as they are sometimes victims, too.” MRO members are, in fact, asking the police to intensify their efforts to fight crime.
In their official Facebook page, MRO asked its members to gather at 8am at the People Power Monument in White Plains Road, Quezon City. Those who wish to join the protest should check out the MRO Facebook page for updates and more information.
