Luck was not on this motorcycle rider’s side when he was arrested after trying to evade a checkpoint in Road 20, Barangay Bahay Toro in Quezon City last night. Apparently, authorities managed to catch him because he ended up hitting a tricycle.

The suspect was identified as Rovil Bernardo, 36, a resident at Congressional Ave. in Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 3 Non-Uniformed Personnel Miclo Regis told Coconuts Manila through a phone interview.

Bernardo allegedly sped up his Yamaha Mio Sporty motorcycle to avoid authorities when he was flagged down at a checkpoint at around 11pm. This prompted PO1 Abner Perdigon to chase him, the police report states.

His escape plan did not work, however, because he was quickly arrested when he hit a tricycle, ABS-CBN News reported.

Seized from the suspect were a plastic sachet containing suspected shabu, one piece of aluminum foil, a lighter, and a digital weighing scale, the police report says.

The suspect told ABS-CBN News that he was just scared because he didn’t have his license on him, which is why he tried to avoid the checkpoint. He denied that the drug paraphernalia was his.

Bernardo will be charged for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Authorities have started establishing checkpoints for the Commission on Elections in anticipation of the mid-term elections in May. They are meant to enforce a strict ban on bearing, carrying or transporting of firearms and other deadly weapons. The checkpoints will last until June 12.
