Those who have had enough of long lines at the MRT and the hectic traffic along major thoroughfares are about to get back another transportation option that’s been on the down-low for almost a year.
Motorcycle booking app Angkas announced today that it is operational once again.
In true Angkas fashion, they announced their comeback in a cheeky tweet.
“Oh no, you meddler, I was supposed to be the first one to post [about the announcement],” it said in the tweet.
It was a response to online publication Rappler who also reported about the return of Angkas.
Hala epal ako dapat una magpopost eh https://t.co/qSVpz2Jh6a

In another tweet, Angkas posted about how they were surprised themselves: “Guys, we’re a lttle shookt. Please give us time to adjust, we know you guys are excited. A little patience, we’ll try to get more bikers to serve you all! #AngkasIsBack.”

Rappler reported that Angkas was granted a preliminary injunction by the Mandaluyong City Regional Trial Court today. This will prevent the government from stopping any of the operations of the ride-hailing app.
The order will prohibit the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) “from interfering, whether directly or indirectly” with Angkas operations.
The preliminary injunction will stand until a final ruling is made, Top Gear Philippines stated.
House Metro Manila Development Committee chairman Rep. Winston Castelo recognized the need for motorcycle taxis in the heavily congested metro.
Castelo told Top Gear Philippines: “We know that improvements to mass transport are underway, but people cannot wait any longer for MRT-7 and the subway. They need Angkas now.”
The LTFRB suspended Angkas’ operations in November 2017 stating the app violated the Republic Act No. 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, Rappler stated.
LTFRB board member Aileen Lizada even told reporters that Angkas was “considered closed already.”
Bet Angkas staff members are out having a celebration party right now. Netizens are already excited for its return:
Twitter user @nherzjane wrote: “Please hurry up recruiting [bikers]! It’s so traffic in EDSA, we need a lot of bikers!”
Pakibilisan ang pag-recruit! Sobrang traffic sa Edsa, o, kailangan ng maraming bikers!
