A mother in Taguig City is seeking justice over the death of her 14-year-old son who was allegedly beaten by schoolmates and later died from the injuries.
One of the suspects is now in the custody of the Social Welfare department but his alleged accomplice has yet to be found.
The unnamed suspect and another student allegedly beat 14-year-old Jury Habon, a student at Diosdado Macapagal High School in Taguig City, with brass knuckles. Jury was brought to the Taguig-Pateros Hospital but died two days later.
“A witness said my son bumped into the student who punched him,” Nelia Habon, Jury’s mother, said in Filipino in a DZMM report. She said her son was beaten up by two schoolmates.
Habon called on the Taguig City government to increase security in its schools to avoid a repeat of the incident.
In March, a student at another public high school in Taguig accidentally shot his cousin with an improvised gun. The student reportedly brought the pen gun to school to protect himself from bullies. He was showing the gun to his cousin when he pulled the trigger thinking it wasn’t loaded.
