Most UP units, Ateneo move school opening to August

“The Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines system on Thursday, Feb 6, announced they are shifting their academic calendars from August to May, aligning their schedule with their overseas partners and ensuring that they graduates will have a global outlook,” reports GMA News Online.

However, in UP’s case, UP-Diliman has rejected the shift and will still stick to the June to March schedule for the coming academic year (AY) 2014-2015.

Through its Facebook page, UP’s student newspaper, the Philippine Collegian said that the academic calendar shift for the rest of the UP units will take effect for AY 2014-2015.

In Ateneo’s case, the academic calendar shift will be implemented for AY 2015-2016.

The report noted that “other Philippine universities have also expressed intentions to change their academic year as part of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) integration in 2015.” Among those mentioned were De La Salle University and the University of Santo Tomas.
