Most of Manila agrees: Guns are a problem

Most of Metro Manila believes the proliferation of guns leads to a rise in crime and violence according to a Pulse Asia survey conducted in March.

According to the pollster, 80 percent of respondents from Metro Manila agreed “guns and their proliferation are a major cause of crime and violence in the country.” Only 11 percent of respondents disagreed while 7 percent said they weren’t sure.

Respondents from Metro Manila were also more supportive of gun control at 87 percent, much higher than the average nationwide response of 75 percent.

The same survey reported 81 percent of respondents said they would be in favor of a law that would limit permits to carry to law enforcement agents and licensed security guards.

In contrast, only 19 percent of respondents indicated support for allowing licensed gun owners to bring their firearms “anywhere they like.”

The nationwide survey involved 1,800 respondents and was conducted from March 16 to 20.
