“The proposal of the University of the Philippines (UP) to move the school opening from June to August has yet to be approved by the UP Board of Regents, the university’s highest policy-making body. But UP vice president for public affairs Prospero de Vera said among UP’s constituent universities nationwide, only the University Council in Diliman has asked for time for further consultation,” reports ABS-CBN News correspondent Jing Castañeda.
UP campuses in Diliman, Los Baños, Manila, Baguio, Visayas, Mindanao, Open University, and an autonomous College in Cebu have reportedly already finished with theirs and expressed readiness for the shift.
If the move is approved, De Vera pointed out that this would also apply to the elementary and high school students enrolled in UP’s various basic education programs nationwide: UP Integrated School in Quezon City, UP Rural High School in Los Baños, UP High School in Cebu, and UP High School in Iloilo.
These laboratory schools of the UP College of Education and are therefore under the jurisdiction of UP and not the Department of Education (DepEd).
