On Sun, Jan 10, around 50 Mitsubishi Montero Sport vehicles joined a caravan in Quezon City to protest reports of sudden unintended acceleration (SUA) incidents involving the car model. The owners parked their vehicles around the ABS-CBN Eugenio Lopez Jr. building. This was because they believe the network’s reports did the most damage to the repiutation of their vehicles.
Gel Angeles, spokesperson of the group, stated, “We’re just here to show that we totally believe in our vehicles. We have peace of mind, we are very confident of our vehicles. None of us have experienced that allegation of sudden acceleration.”
“In a bid to debunk SUA incidents, the group drove by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) office and proceeded to the Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) assembly plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.
The report noted: “The DTI earlier started a probe to determine if the vehicles are defective. The MMPC, meanwhile, has denied that the Montero Sport is ‘unsafe’ amid complaints of several owners.”
The MMPC said they conducted tests and investigations with its principal Mitsubishi Motors Corporation of Japan (MMC) to determine the cause of the alleged unintended acceleration. They claimed that they have not found “any defects or cause directly linked to the vehicles involved.”
