The overseas Filipino worker from Jordan who on Nov 25 abandoned her 3 month-old baby at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) has surfaced, and she wants her baby back.
36-year-old Vilma Pacibas Lastima said she wants to fly back to Manila to get her son after learning that the Manila International Airport Authorities (MIAA) found her son. The baby was eventually turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as part of the airport’s standard operating procedures.

Denying reports that she abandoned her baby, Lastima said that she just left him with a stranger in NAIA to complete personal errands.
However, good Samaritan Mercy Bonaobra got worried when Lastima failed to come back after four hours. She turned over the baby to the police authorities, ABS-CBN News reports.
Meanwhile, Lastima’s sister-in-law said that they they learned about the incident through the local news.
Lastima has children here in the Philippines, but she is separated from her husband. Her family in Maco town, Davao was suprised that she arrived in the country, and they were even more suprised to hear about the baby.
“Hindi po siya nag-kwento sa amin at after two days mahinahon po namin siya kinausap pero itinatanggi po niya na anak niya ang bata, halata po namin na may inililihim na problema si Vilma,” said Lastima’s sister-in-law, Joy Detros
(‘She didn’t tell us about the incident, and after two days, we calmly asked her about it but she denied that the baby is her son. We noticed that there was something wrong’)
Airport General Manager Ed Monreal said that they are willling to assist Lastima once proper identification is provided.
