Teresa Yap, the mother of Angelica Yap (aka “Pastillas Girl”) was shot dead by an unknown gunman in Caloocan City on Sunday night.

She was about to eat at a roadside eatery on Tagaytay Street in Caloocan when a man suddenly approached her from behind and shot her at close range.

Teresa was with one her daughters and a niece.

She fell as the gunman fled the scene. Her family and other concerned citizens in the area immediately responded and brought her to a hospital. She was pronounced dead at 9:20pm.

Angelica went to the hospital after she learned about the incident.

A closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera of Barangay 131, where Teresa was a member of the barangay council, caught the whole incident.

According to a relative, Tumping Fabian, Teresa received a lot of death threats via text messages saying she would be finished before Christmas.

The messages made her worry but Teresa allegedly ignored the threats.

Police officials and investigators were still gathering information about the incident as of posting. Residents were helping the police and barangay officials in their probe.

“Pastillas Girl” gained popularity when ABS-CBN noontime show It’s Showtime started a segment to find her a new boyfriend.

It quickly became controversial when Gabriela called them out and said the show was “pimping”  Angelica, forcing Teresa to appear on TV and defend her daughter.
