Fe Glipo of Matnog Sorsogon, a town about 600 kilometers from Manila, was sure her son was dead. She was so sure that she even held a wake and funeral for 21-year-old Benny Glipo, whose body she believed she had identified two weeks ago.
But Benny was very much alive and understandably shocked to find out about his own funeral via Facebook. ABS-CBN reported yesterday that Benny went home after seeing pictures of friends and family mourning his death.
“I was dazed [when I saw him]. My brother had to shake me before I could say anything,” Fe said, clutching her forehead.
Benny left home to look for a job in the nearby town of Bacon, Sorsogon, after testifying as a witness in a rape trial. But when Benny never turned up in Bacon, Fe feared the worst, convinced his disappearance might have been related to his testimony in the case.
Fe searched for Benny until she finally visited a funeral parlor where she was shown a body with nine bullet wounds. She confirmed with another family member that it was Benny’s body. They were both wrong.
Benny had actually left Bacon to search for work in Manila without letting his family know.
But if Benny’s still alive, who did they bury? Police still haven’t figured that part out.
